The
Development
The site
comprises 24 acres (9.7 hectares) of land immediately adjacent
to the Town Centre and Railway Station. The site was sourced
by Shepherd Developments for mixed use development and comprises
the former Markham Engineering Works, which manufactured tunnel
boring machines, including those for the Channel Tunnel.
It was acquired
following the site's closure in late 1999, after which the
site was extensively reclaimed and remediated. Substantial
buildings were demolished and the site was prepared for it's
new proposed uses.
Planning Permission
was obtained for mixed uses, comprising residential (approximately
240 units) innovative 'Live / Work' units comprising apartments
with office facilities, including IT cabling and shared meeting
rooms, office buildings, public house / restaurant, children's
play area and public open space.
The development
also opens up the River Rother for public access, including
a riverside footpath / cycle way providing a link towards
the Railway Station to the North and the Town Centre to the
South
The
office facilities comprise Riverside and Bridge House for
which more details are available on the offices page.
